DESCRIPTION: EPW - "Samson, London," Continental verge fusee, 56mm, silver repoussé OF original pair cases, the inner bearing London hallmarks for 1779, casemaker's incuse script mark "IC" with axe above, likely Joseph Carpenter, James Clarke and John Clarke being other possibilities, the outer with court scene, KWKS, signed silver champlevé dial, gold poker & beetle hands, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, s#1474. Gross weight of assembled watch 76.9 dwt (119.6 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, chain off barrel and wrapped fully around fusee, escapement turns over with pressure on the contrate, balance bridge lacking one foot screw, plates show fine gilding, light oxide on steel components; dial near mint; hands near mint; original outer case shows medium wear, the facial detail gone but then engraved with newer detail, few MFS, very light dents or dings, dent on front bezel; button latch good; original inner case shows less wear, many MFS, creased dent and some dings; bow & pendant of the general period; good domed glass crystal.
